We look at the stump's size, location, and root spread to assess access and determine the scope of the job before giving you an honest estimate.
You'll know the full cost before we start. We'll also discuss whether you'd like the wood chip grindings left as natural fill or hauled away — no surprises either way.
Our grinder works the stump down several inches below grade — completely eliminating regrowth, removing the tripping hazard, and leaving the area ready for whatever you have planned.
We rake the wood chips back into the hole to settle naturally over time, or remove them entirely if you prefer. Your yard is left level, clean, and ready for grass seed or new landscaping.

Stump grinding is priced by the stump's diameter, how accessible it is for the grinder, and how many stumps are being done at once — several stumps in one visit costs less per stump than a single call-out. Stumps in tight backyards, on slopes, or behind fences take longer to reach and are priced accordingly. You get the full price at a free on-site estimate before we start.
We grind several inches below grade — deep enough that the stump stops sending up sprouts, the tripping hazard is gone, and you can put grass seed or new landscaping over it. If you're planning to plant a new tree in the exact same spot, tell us during the estimate, because that usually calls for going deeper and dealing with more of the root mass.
By default we rake the grindings back into the hole, where they settle naturally over time — this is the standard approach and it keeps the area level. If you'd rather have a clean hole for topsoil or new planting, we can haul the chips away for an additional fee. Just tell us which you want when we quote the job.
For nearly every residential situation, yes. Grinding is faster, cheaper, and far less invasive — no excavation, no torn-up lawn, no heavy machinery digging out the root plate. Full removal pulls the entire root ball out and leaves a large hole that needs to be backfilled. It's mostly warranted when you're regrading, pouring a foundation, or building where the roots are in the way.
